London Eye Managing Director wins prestigious Catey Award

14 Jul 2008

On Tuesday July 8 2008 David Sharpe, Managing Director of the London Eye and Divisional Director of London midway attractions, Merlin Entertainment’s Group won one of the UK's most prestigious awards in the Catering and Hospitality industry, known as a 'Catey.'

Since their inception in 1984, the Catey’s have cast a spotlight on the industry’s high flyers, strongest performers and hottest brands. Over a quarter of a century the Catey’s have become a byword for quality, class and achievement, and are known as the industry’s ‘Oscars.’

Mr Sharpe won the Leisure and Tourism category, and was particularly praised for his handling of early London Eye operational teething problems, his ability to be an effective team motivator and his excellent knowledge of the tourism business. The judges described the London Eye as ‘a tremendous icon and you so rarely get a new attraction that becomes a must-see for visitors to London.’
