London 2012 ‘Landmark London’ vote
18 Sep 2009
Over the summer London marked three years to go to until the start of the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Every London Borough is playing an important role in making the London Games a success.
To celebrate our work Lambeth has teamed up with the London 2012 Organising Committee to offer residents the opportunity to vote for their favourite local landmark to be featured in a set London 2012 ‘Landmark London’ pin badges.
The results of the vote will be made public at the end of October this year with the celebratory set of 33 pin badges expected to go on sale next year. Honav UK, the London 2012 pin badge licensee, has pledged to create over 2,012 individual pins to celebrate the best of life in the capital and the UK.
Visit the voting website at www.london2012.com/landmark to view the nominations put forward by Lambeth and choose the landmark that you would like to represent our borough. You have until midnight on Sunday 18 October 2009 to cast your vote.
Lambeth has put forward the following landmarks for the vote
London Eye; Brixton Windmill; Lambeth Town Hall; Lambeth Walk
Commenting on the competition, Cllr Rachel Heywood - Cabinet member
for Culture and Communities said “I’m excited that our residents can help choose which iconic Lambeth image will go on the pin badges that we show off to visitors to the 2012 Games. The winning image is a great way of reminding visitors how important Lambeth is to the make up of our fantastic host city.”
Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee said: “Pin badges are a popular part of the heritage of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement with each Organising Committee producing a range of these collectors’ items.
Inviting Londoners to create the ‘Landmark London’ set is one of many ways people will be able to get involved in the London 2012 merchandise programme. I encourage residents of Lambeth to cast their vote for their favourite borough landmark.”
Lambeth Life will bring you news of the winning landmark later this year.
