Merlin Entertainments Wins Green500 Award

11 Jun 2010

The Merlin Entertainments Group (London Division), which includes the London Eye, Madame Tussuads, the London Dungeon and the SEA LIFE London Aquarium has won a Green500 Platinum Award.

Green500 is one of a number of London Development Agency (LDA) initiatives, including Better Buildings Partnership, which aims to reduce the capital’s CO2 emissions. The aim of Green500 is to enlist some of London’s largest and most prestigious organisations, and mentor them through their carbon reduction commitments.

The access to specialist knowledge and guidance has helped the London Eye to improve its carbon footprint and overall utility costs. The ongoing support provided by Green 500 will assist the London Eye in making further environmental improvements which will not only benefit Merlin’s business now, but also well into the future. Completing the Green 500 site visit audits have also enabled Merlin Entertainments Group (London Division) to identify additional ways in which to reduce the carbon footprint even further.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, presented accolades to London's top carbon cutting companies at a ceremony in London on Tuesday 8th June.

The winners were all members of the schemes run by the London Development Agency (LDA) to help organisations become more energy efficient to support the Mayor's carbon reduction targets.

Each rotation takes about 30 minutes, meaning a capsule travels at a stately 26cm per second, or 0.9km (0.6 miles) per hour - twice as fast as a tortoise sprinting; allowing passengers to step on and off without the wheel having to stop.
