New Mobility Event at the EDF Energy London Eye and London Eye River Cruise

07 Apr 2011

A new mobility event is taking place at the iconic London Eye and London Eye River Cruise in central London on 11th & 12th May 2011.

Jostling crowds and traffic can often obscure the view of our magnificent capital. Wheelchair users and their carers will be able to get a unique view of the city by visiting our FREE Roadshow including a ticket to the London Eye or gaining a different perspective by enjoying a circular sight seeing cruise on the River Thames.

Since opening in March 2000 the London Eye has become an iconic landmark and a symbol of modern Britain. It is the UK’s most popular paid for visitor attraction, visited by over 3.75 million people a year.

The aim of the new programme, sponsored by Gowrings Mobility, is to inspire people with disabilities to experience attractions and places of interest they may not have otherwise considered. Stopping at top venues across the UK this year, including the Woburn and Longleat Safari Park, the events are expected to attract many visitors.

Janet Seward, Sales and Marketing Director of accessible transport specialist Gowrings Mobility, said: “The aim of the programme is to show people what they can do and take the attitude that you really can ‘go where you want to go’. This opportunity to experience the London Eye or London Eye River Cruise will hopefully inspire visitors.”

Gowrings Mobility will be on hand to provide information and advice for anyone with mobility difficulties and their carers. They are also running a free prize draw to win a VIP day out at The London Eye and London Eye River Cruise, including chauffeur driven wheelchair accessible transport to and from the event, Champagne on arrival, lunch and a free London Eye and London Eye River Cruise experience.

The FREE entrance is available between 10am and 4pm on 11th & 12th May 2011 when visiting the Roadshow. Visitors wishing to take advantage of this offer during the Roadshow should call Gowrings Mobility on +44 (0)845 608 8020 before 4th May 2011 to book a time slot on the London Eye or the London Eye River Cruise to avoid disappointment as Roadshow tickets will be limited.

All roadshow visitors will also receive a free Rough Guide to Accessible Britain book worth £6.99. For further details, to enter the VIP prize draw and to book please call Gowrings Mobility on +44 (0)845 608 8020.

*Roadshow tickets are FREE and include a choice of a rotation on the Eye or a sight seeing tour on the River Cruise. All disabled guests can bring a carer free of charge on both the London Eye and the London Eye River Cruise. Both the London Eye and the London Eye River Cruise on the Silver Bonito are fully accessible for disabled guests, with wheelchair access and disabled toilets.

Did you know?

Slowly but surely

Each rotation takes about 30 minutes, meaning a capsule travels at a stately 26cm per second, or 0.9km (0.6 miles) per hour - twice as fast as a tortoise sprinting; allowing passengers to step on and off without the wheel having to stop.
