19 Aug 2010

London Restaurant Festival 2010

The 2010 London Restaurant Festival (4-18 October) in partnership with American Express, today announced that the on-line charity auction for the Gordon Ramsay capsule is now open. The on-line auction will take place through the London Restaurant Festival website which will be open for bids from today until the 8th September 2010.

For the second year running Ramsay will be cooking in London’s most sought-after pop-up restaurant where one capsule on the London Eye will be transformed into the capital’s most exclusive restaurant, completing one rotation for each course. Ten guests will have the London Eye to themselves to enjoy dinner 135m above the River Thames with what’s been described as the UK’s most exclusive chef’s table.

Last year, the Gordon Ramsay night was auctioned off at a charity event where a mystery bidder paid an impressive £23,000. The three-Michelin starred chef has once again agreed to auction off his 2010 Festival night to raise money for the charity StreetSmart, which is the official charity for the 2010 London Restaurant Festival.

Gordon Ramsay commented: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the London Restaurant Festival 2010, not only is the pop-up restaurant fantastic but it’s for a really good cause, StreetSmart, who do incredible work and I hope they raise a huge amount of money this year. London is one of the finest culinary centres in the world, and the Festival is a great way of celebrating London’s food offering. I'm really looking forward to cooking an amazing dinner for ten guests on The London Eye where I'll be serving up a festival menu with a difference!”

London Evening Standard restaurant critic and Festival Founder Fay Maschler said "The London Restaurant Festival 2010 is so proud to be working with Gordon Ramsay once again. This night means such a huge amount to the festival but also to our official LRF charity StreetSmart.”

The StreetSmart charity works with London’s homeless to provide food, clothes and shelter and is well known for working with London’s restaurant industry to raise money. As well as the auctioned Gordon Ramsay capsule, a percentage of the ten other London Eye dinner capsules taking place across the festival period will also be allocated to the StreetSmart charity.

Glenn Pougnet, Director, StreetSmart added: “All bidders should know that, if successful, their contribution will make a significant difference to the work being done by StreetSmart to help the homeless in London. StreetSmart are delighted that Gordon Ramsay and the LRF will be boosting our funds in such an exciting and London centric way. Every penny StreetSmart receives from the top bidder will go to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our city.”

The winning bidder and their nine guests will have dinner cooked for them by Gordon Ramsay and will get then chance to meet the chef. There will also be a G H Mumm Champagne reception which will be hosted at the brand new Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel. A varied wine selection which has been designed to complement each menu will also be served.
