Concert

What you should be doing in London Monday 1st - Sunday 7th May 2017…

Monday

Feeling inspired to get your running shoes on since last weekend? Or overdone it on the bank hol weekend and need renewed motivation? The 2018 London Marathon ballot opens today for five days only.

Tuesday

Currently leading the London grime scene (not to mention his beautiful Brit Awards duet with Ed Sheeran), Stormzy plays three nights at the O2 Academy Brixton.

Wednesday

Celebrating master’s and makers across crafts of all shapes and sizes, it’s the third London Craft Week, with a programme of events throughout the city until Sunday.

Thursday

Shakespeare’s Summer of Love has begun at The Globe, with a modern twist on five of his most passionate productions.

Friday

Try dinner or afternoon tea at London’s newest Japanese restaurant and patisserie - Machiya in Soho. It’s named after the townhouses that once defined the Kyoto cityscape. And if you love that, Proud East in Haggerston are doing Pop Up Japan until 18th June.

HIDDEN LONDON...

London’s best kept secret that we’ve discovered this week…

The best high streets for charity shopping in London:

  • Shepherd’s Bush and Hammersmith
  • Streatham High Road
  • Highgate
  • Brixton

Go because... it’s feel-good thriftiness at it’s best. Try to resist the CDs and videos and look for jewellery, accessories, retro homewares, vintage and kids clothes.

THE LOOK AHEAD

What’s coming up that you won’t want to miss…

1. Plan your Eurovision party and outfit for 13th May.

2. Nothing says summer’s here like the launch of Frank’s Cafe (19th May) and nothing says confusion like your face the first time you try to find it in the Peckham multi-storey.

3. Finally a festival to celebrate everyone’s favourite food - Sandwich Fest, funded by a Kickstarter (we’ve come a long way since potato salad) comes to East London on 20th May.

4. Brixton Beach Boulevard opens for day parties on 27th May.

THE ‘LONDONER’

How the locals do it...

Who: Zoe, 33.

Lives: Tufnell Park.

Works: Global Radio, Leicester Square.

How do you spend your commute: I normally travel about 6am to gym/spin first at Virgin, The Strand. I spend it checking through my social accounts - Instagram is my new fave.

Coffee: Starbucks Skinny Mocha.

After work drinks: All Bar One, Leicester Square or The Marquis which is more of an old school pub (you can take the girl out of the village but you can’t take the village out of the girl)

A seriously special dinner: Hawksmoor or Flat Iron. Love a bit of steak.

Let your hair down: A gig at Kentish Town Forum.
