Happy new day, week, month and year! January is the month for setting goals, battling the sales and beating the winter blues by getting out, about and getting healthy. Be the best you this January!

WHAT’S ON IN JANUARY

Christmas Shopping

The sales are on and it’s your last chance to catch the winter markets before they shut until November. Some would say the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping!

Music

You don’t have to give yourself a hard time with your New Year’s resolution. It could be to visit five live music venues that you haven’t been to before. And January is looking great for gigs in London. From a 16-piece live orchestra presenting Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy at the Jazz Cafe on 4th January, to Newton Faulkner playing two nights at Pizza Express Live, Holborn on the 19th and 20th, and everything in between.

Visit Richmond

Richmond is the happiest and healthiest borough in London, so hop on the district line and soak up some of what they’re getting out west. Richmond Park is fantastic for a bike ride or a run - one loop is about seven miles. There’s also plenty of opportunity for watersports on the river, from boating to paddleboarding. For a healthy brunch try The Retreat Kitchen on Hill Rise.

DO SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

There’s never a bad time to learn something new or try something different but January is a particularly good time. Booking yourself on a class is a great way to ensure you actually do it and meet new people. If London is on your doorstep, then so are hundreds of classes.

>> The Urban Cheesemaker

Learn how to make cheese at Wildes Cheese’s micro dairy in Tottenham. Their one-day course has been listed by the Guardian as one of the UK’s top foodie courses.

>> Pick Your Own

Cut your food miles, get outside and eat for free by learning to forage for your food. There’s foraging groups and courses available across London.

>> Purl and Play

Looking for something to do on your commute other than scrolling social media? Knitting could be the answer to keep your hands busy and your mind creative. There’s clubs, classes and even knitting parties throughout London. Check out Wool and the Gang for some seriously cool crafting.

GYM CRAZES

If you feel like your body is made up of 95% chocolate and cheese since Christmas, then one of these unique gym classes might be just what you need.

>> Voga

A cross between yoga and vogueing (or stylised dance)... yoga has never been so fabulous! Classes run in London Fields with House of Voga.

>> Rave Aerobics

If you just can’t wait for the weekend to begin, grab your glow sticks, get down to Gymbox at Westfield Stratford at 7pm on Tuesday, and start raving!

>> Trapeze

Aerial hoop and trapeze classes with Flying Fantastic will guarantee you a core of steel before you can say ‘I want to run away to the circus.’ They have locations in Bankside, Battersea, Old Street and Wimbledon.
